Dublin Area Meetings

Regular meetings in the Society’s HQ, Heuston Station, Dublin, feature presentations on topics of railway historical and current affairs, including slideshows and films. Meetings are usually held every second and fourth Thursday of each month during the period September-December and January-April. Dublin Area programme for 2018/19 can be downloaded here.

Meetings begin 7:30pm and conclude 9:45pm / 10:00pm and are open to members and first-time visitors. Donations are sought for the provision of refreshments during the interval.

An illustrated talk by Charles Friel tracing the formation and operation of No. 13 Ambulance Train, provided by the GNR(I), and No. 14 Ambulance Train, provided by the GSWR, as well as the later history of the vehicles in civvy street.

  • “The Railways of Bord na Mona Past and Present” by Andrew Waldron.

An illustrated study of the largest industrial railway system Ireland has ever known; a vast system of 2ft and 3ft gauge rail lines with more than 750 miles of track spread out over 15 counties, from the Bord’s inception in the 1930s to the present day. Rare pictures from the earliest days and covering every single system with a good mix of black and white and colour images. 


IRRS is located opposite Heuston Station carpark, Dublin, on the northside of the station adjacent to the River Liffey
